TYGA is of Jamaican and Vietnamese origin, and grew up in a lower middle class family.

Thanks to his contacts with Travis McCoy, he achieved a small leap to fame. He is a close friend of Chris Brown with whom he has done multiple collaborations and toured with. He says: “I owe much of my fame and fortune to my great friend Chris Brown, I thank him because thanks to him I am who I am now”.
